Archives For Arizona Eateries

Our family is in town for Christmas and yesterday we decided to grab a late lunch at one of our favorite German eateries. With a last name like Leidhecker….how could we not.

Brat Haus is located in Old Town Scottsdale, AZ and has a perfect layout of brew house, butcher shop and beer garden. We opted to eat outside….no worries…they have heaters.

We ordered the kale & pear salad, the German potato salad and a charcuterie (sampler) of local goat cheese, Moroccan lamb sausage, rabbit & hops sausage and Duck & dates sausage. Everything was amazing! I also savored an amazing on tap special stout. It had wonderful creamy chocolate & berry notes with a smooth finish….I took my time on this bad boy.

We had the opportunity to be spectators at our first Farm session and got to witness culinary genius Aaron May (owner of Over Easy, 18 Degrees, The Lodge, Mabel’s on Main and famous Sol y Sombra) turn up the heat in the kitchen as he spilled the beans about his upcoming restaurant Iruna, a Spanish kitchen and lounge who’s menu will reflect the culture and cuisine of Northern Spain and the Pyrenees mountains. Iruna which is named after the Basque word for the Spanish city of Pamplona will open sometime in May in the Pischke’s space in Old Town Scottsdale.

If you are a die hard fan of the Food Network then this post may make you a little jealous. Our dear friends Falon and Seth gave us the inside scoop that the Food Network would be in Arizona filming at Greasewood Flat. So, we took this as the perfect opportunity to not only try out Greasewood Flat’s famous Bacon Green Chili Cheeseburger but take part in an actual filming. Being an adventurous couple on a mission for good eats we seized the day, hopped in our car and headed up to Greasewood Flat. We could not contain our excitement and was eager to see what Food Network star and show was going to be making a special appearance. We have been told that Greasewood Flat has been a favorite local dive amongst the natives for years and we wanted to see what all the fuss was about. But leave it to us to let our taste buds and our eyes to do the judging. So, hold on tight to your saddlebags we are taking you on a tasty ride!

If you are like us then you probably take food very seriously. One of our favorite types of cuisine is Mexican (for which we have a love affair) and we are passionate about eating it. With the recent Twitter buzz of Verde’s grande opening we knew our growling bellies had to make an appearance. If you are looking to scratch a Mexican food itch then Verde, your Mexican meal ticket is one place we would recommend. Just take our satisfied bellies word for it! The food is fresh, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is no frills, no-nonsense just good food fast. Verde proves that you don’t have to cross the Mexican border to enjoy authentic Mexican fare (no American influence here!).

As die hard sushi aficionados we are always in search of amazing sushi restaurants on our travels and in our local area. In Arizona their is definitely a fair share of sushi bars to choose from, however – quality, fresh sushi that tastes like it just swam in from the shores can be hard to find. So, you can imagine our excitement when the ladies at Sweet Republic recommended we try Hana Japanese Eatery (they didn’t have to twist our arm.)
