Archives For Bloggin Good Food

We had the delicious pleasure of tasting and cooking with Bacon Marmalade, a spreadable pork condiment or shall we say bacony goodness in a jar. Who would have guessed that a skillet of burnt bacon mixed with some sugar, vinegar and spices could be Chef Ross best discovery in the kitchen. Bacon can be irresistibly paired with so many things like french toast, deviled eggs and double chocolate brownies (the perfect marriage of sweet, salty & savory). It’s amazing how a little bit of Bacon Marmalade goes along way, only to make us crave it more. Long live bacon!

“Sugar Ah, honey, honey….you are my candy gals and you got me wanting you!”

We had the pleasure of going behind the scenes for a sneak peek in the GoodyTwos Toffee kitchen to film the first of many food documentary for our “Behind the Food” series. The best part was that we had the lucky fortune of whipping up & tasting a batch of their famous toffee. We got a candid snapshot of Goodytwos gals in action as they told us about the passion behind their sweet, crunchy and goodylicious toffee made with love. Meet Donna Gabrilson and Stacey Barnes, the adorable mother & daughter toffee duo of Goodytwos Toffee Company who’s mission is to spread toffee sweetness around the world. Being toffee making extraordinaire’s they make handmade artisan, gluten free toffee in small batches using only the best ingredients; pure cane sugar, french sea salt, local Arizonian creamery butter and Belgium chocolate. Not only is the toffee to die for but these Goody twos gals are just as sweet & warm as the toffee that they make fresh daily.

We had the opportunity to be spectators at our first Farm session and got to witness culinary genius Aaron May (owner of Over Easy, 18 Degrees, The Lodge, Mabel’s on Main and famous Sol y Sombra) turn up the heat in the kitchen as he spilled the beans about his upcoming restaurant Iruna, a Spanish kitchen and lounge who’s menu will reflect the culture and cuisine of Northern Spain and the Pyrenees mountains. Iruna which is named after the Basque word for the Spanish city of Pamplona will open sometime in May in the Pischke’s space in Old Town Scottsdale.

If you are a die hard fan of the Food Network then this post may make you a little jealous. Our dear friends Falon and Seth gave us the inside scoop that the Food Network would be in Arizona filming at Greasewood Flat. So, we took this as the perfect opportunity to not only try out Greasewood Flat’s famous Bacon Green Chili Cheeseburger but take part in an actual filming. Being an adventurous couple on a mission for good eats we seized the day, hopped in our car and headed up to Greasewood Flat. We could not contain our excitement and was eager to see what Food Network star and show was going to be making a special appearance. We have been told that Greasewood Flat has been a favorite local dive amongst the natives for years and we wanted to see what all the fuss was about. But leave it to us to let our taste buds and our eyes to do the judging. So, hold on tight to your saddlebags we are taking you on a tasty ride!
